SPANISH+INTERSHIPS PROGRAMS IN SPAIN & PERU

Join SLI for a semester in Spain or Peru! The Spanish + Internship program is designed to combine language training with on-the-job exposure to professional practices. Through combining a Spanish course with a period spent in a Spain or Peru-based company, students are able to meet native speakers and put their Spanish skills to practical use, whilst increasing their awareness and understanding of international Spanish speaking business culture.

You can have Spanish language training in monumental Segovia (Spain) or in the Peruvian cities of Huancayo (in the Andes) and Satipo (in the Central Jungle of the Amazonia). Language training will be followed by a personalized internship in Spain or in Peru. You make your own program: It is possible to combine the Spanish language training in one country with the internship in the country.

The Internship Program is open to future professionals as well as to current professionals.

Students start by taking one of our Spanish courses for a minimum of 4 weeks, followed by an internship for a minimum of 2 months. Internships are programmed to last 2 to 10 months. Longer internships need to be discussed with an SLI Program Coordinator.

Beginners in the Spanish language must commence the program with a minimum of 2 months of Spanish lessons. All other students must take a Spanish test to determine their level of training on the first day of the program.

You will still have one-to-one Spanish lessons while you are doing the internship. This will contribute to improving your language skills and support and reinforce your professional practice.

Our internships are carefully selected according to student's interests, qualifications and any previous professional experience.

All of our internships are unpaid, but some companies do contribute to students' lunch or travel costs. This is at their manager's discretion.

If you are interested on the Spanish + Internship Programs, indicate this on the registration sheet enrollment form, and we will facilitate further information.

Remember that we can design a program tailored to your needs. For example, upon request, we can design an internship program that combines work in Spain and Peru. For more information, get in contact with us.

Spanish Language Training

Your program will begin with full time intensive Spanish language training in a one-to-one environment (80 lessons per month) at our school in Spain (Segovia) or Peru (Satipo or Huancayo).

In Segovia you will learn Spanish in a monumental city, cradle of the Spanish language…. a happy, quiet and secure city!!! just one hour from the capital. This Castilian city enjoys a nice climate with sunny skies and a spectacular nature. It is also rich with cultural history, architecture, dance, music and much more to take in during your language training.

In Peru, you will immerse yourself in a rich culture where you will find the contrast of native Amerindian communities, the heritage of the Spanish colonization and modern infrastructures. Huancayo and Satipo are located in the Department of Junin. This Department is famous for its cultural richness and its history. Its colourful festivities are a mixed of their native cultures and the Spanish colonization. Huancayo is in the Andes mountains, while Satipo is in the Central Jungle of the Amazonia. In Satipo you will get in contact with native communities of the area such as Ashaninkas and Yaneshas.

Please inquire with our staff about gaining university credit. At SLI we can not grant University Credit but we can help you getting it. All participants will be issued with an official certificate of completion of their Spanish classes and the internship to be used when applying for credit with your home university. Our school is fully accredited and recognized by the Ministry of Education.

  • Opportunity to increase cultural awareness and improve communication skills
  • A unique resume that differentiates you from other applicants when you apply for your next job
  • A unique personal experience that will enrich you as a human being living in a global world

How we choose your internship placement…

Internship placement in Spain and Peru depends on the following factors:

  • Your level of Spanish proficiency at the end of your language training in Segovia. All placements require a minimum level of proficiency, some more than others.
  • Your level of experience in the field. All placements require some formal training, university level study or previous professional experience.
  • The length of time you will be working with the placement company. Generally speaking, the longer your internship placement lasts, the better the placement as the company knows you will be there longer and therefore they will provide more responsibility.
  • The type of experience that you wish to gain from your internship as described in your application form. Please be honest and specific with this section of the application. Our SLI placement agency meets with our interns once a week to evaluate the status of their experience. This is a great way to ensure that all internships exceed expectations.

After submitting your application, you will begin working with an SLI coordinator to finalize your program. Once in Spain, you will have a placement interview at SLI to discuss your expectations of the internship. You will know your host company before you arrive in Spain. Students at the beginner level will attain the final confirmation during your last week of language training so that you can be placed based on your most current Spanish level.

It is important to note that you should have some experience, either academic or professional, in the placement area for which you are applying. If you are not sure whether you have the minimum experience expected, be sure to inquire with our Program Coordinators. We will monitor your progress for the duration of the program. You are guaranteed a statement of reference from the company upon successful completion of the internship.
