SPANISH & INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION PROGRAM

The SLI Spanish + International Cooperation program is a unique opportunity to combine a language course in Spain or Peru with volunteer work in Latin America (Peru). For students taking a gap-year, or wanting to go abroad for a substantial period of time, this is a chance to learn a language and give something valuable back to the community. Many of our volunteer placements do not require experience, just enthusiasm, such as work in orphanages or conservation work. However, some of the placements are for people with relevant experience or qualifications, such as engineering work or as a medical assistant.

There is only one requirement: that you have an adequate level of Spanish for community service. To ensure this, and to help you adapt to this new situation, it is essential that you have followed a Spanish course with us for at least 8 weeks. Throughout your period of international cooperation work, SLI will be on hand to ensure you have support and guidance. And you can tell us how things are working out.

After studying Spanish in Spain (Segovia) or in Peru (Satipo or Huancayo),you will do international cooperation work with one of the many local organisations we work with in Peru. Doing cooperation work in another country can be both challenging and rewarding, and one thing is for sure - you will come back with a real sense of personal achievement, to say nothing of a newfound confidence in Spanish.

Upon completion of the program, you will have to present a report on the work done to the SLI Program Coordinator. Guidelines for the report will be given to students at the beginning of the program. Students who are interested in doing cooperation work abroad should inform us of this, as well as the type of work they are interested in, at the time of enrollment. Cooperation work in Peru is normally for a minimum of 8 weeks.

If you are interested on this program, specify it in the enrollment form and an SLI Program Coordinator will get in contact with you to answer all your questions and to help you make the right choice.
